The Hippo Collection had its inception in 1961 when, as a young man, Monsieur H. visited the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels. He has always collected only bottles that he likes. The choice of bottles of the collection reveals the aesthetic understanding. The group illustrated in the book is representative but by no means the complete collection. Amusing bottles, such as the jade animals are shown. Many bottles are finely worked and have great artistic merit, like the glass overlap group. Other strengths of the collection lie in the bottles of mineral or organic origin. This collection contains a great number of bottles manufactured by almost most materials
