Sandford and his wife, Ina, have been collecting Qing dynasty glass for almost forty years. The pieces have been chosen so as to present Qing Glass in its diversity. Half of them are monochrome, two thirds can be attributed to the 18th century, and more than a quarter bear an Imperial mark. Most of them have been manufactured in one of the studios of the Qing Imperial Glasshouse, the first and only time in China’s history that glassmaking comes under Imperial patronage.
